We offer a range of Mathematics SKE courses funded by the National College for Teaching and Leadership:
We offer 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 and 28 week courses. The number of weeks you should study depends on your existing subject knowledge which should be discussed with your ITT provider.
Short SKE courses
Our short courses (8-12 weeks) would be suitable for trainees who perhaps have a very advanced knowledge of maths but would benefit from a programme to refresh the ‘basics’ which might not have been covered since they were at school themselves. This will provide a recent graduate with the self-assurance they need to become an inspirational maths teacher at all Key Stages in a secondary school.
Medium-length SKE courses
Our medium-length courses (16-20 weeks) would be suitable for trainees who are already pretty secure in the basics, maybe even very secure in their Key Stage 3-level knowledge, but not fully secure in their knowledge at Key Stages 4 or 5, perhaps because their degree didn’t quite match the chosen ITT subject area. Taking this course would drastically reduce the preparation time and workload required to plan and deliver good quality GCSE or A-level lessons in your subject.
Long SKE courses
Our longest courses (24-28 weeks) are designed for trainees who are not fully confident in their subject knowledge at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, perhaps because it has been some time since gaining their degree, or because they want to do an ITT in a different subject to their degree. These trainees would benefit from a thorough programme which also provides a range of subject-specific tips and tricks needed to become an outstanding teacher of maths.
